The Second Box aims to increase elderly scavengers’ income and social engagement in Hong Kong. The team collects cardboard boxes and aluminum cans from scavengers at a higher-than-market price, and redesign the carton boxes into smaller boxes and display boards as well as upcycle the aluminum cans into commercial catalog and invitation cards. The redesigned products will be sold to companies in various industries ranging from Chinese medicine wholesale companies to event-planning companies. Through the interaction with scavengers, the difficulties they faced will be identified and these experiences will then communicate to the general public in order to reduce discrimination against scavengers.
